Insidious: The Last Key

Director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell did many things well in the entertaining and shameless 2010 paranormal thriller, "Insidious". But in terms of creating franchises, they made a crucial mistake: killing the most memorable character in the film, the imperturbable 60-year-old empathic parapsychologist Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye). For the first sequel, "Chapter 2," they brought her back in spectral form, and for "Chapter 3" directed by Whannell in 2015, they made even more room for her, by approaching the movie as a prequel.
